What is the difference between a forged steel gate valve and a cast steel gate valve, and which should I specify for high-pressure steam service?
Forged steel gate valves have a denser, more uniform grain structure with fewer internal voids than cast valves, making them superior for high-pressure, high-temperature service such as steam lines. For critical service above 600 psi or temperatures above 750°F, always specify forged (e.g., A105 or F22 body material). Cast steel gate valves are appropriate for lower-pressure applications and larger bore sizes where forging isn't practical. Bonney Forge offers both, so match the spec to your operating class (ASME Class 800, 1500, 2500, etc.).
