On a very hot, late Friday afternoon this summer, a New England Power Plant had one of their service air compressors break down.
Without the air compressor operating, the plant faced the potential scenario of being forced off-line during one of the hottest weeks of the summer. The electricity they produce is critical to the New England power grid. In addition, the plant was facing significant lost revenue and penalties should the facility be forced to go off-line, so to put it mildly this was a BIG PROBLEM.
The Maintenance Manager put a call into Bob Copell, Director of Collins Compressor division. Bob was able to troubleshoot the problem, order the part from a vendor in California at 7:30 pm EST on a Friday evening and it shipped Next Day Air for Saturday delivery.
On Saturday morning, he met the delivery truck. Installed the part, and the machine was back up and running by 1:00 PM – crisis averted!
