FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

East Windsor, CT – New product lines, the purchase of a 16,000-plus square-foot distribution facility, seven new jobs, and the return of a well-known and highly-respected leader in the pipe, valve and fittings industry are just some of the advantagesthat came withCollins Pipe & Supply Company, Inc.’srecent acquisition of BurnsCascade Co., Inc., of Syracuse, NY.

On Thursday, March 22, 2012, Collins Pipe & Supply acquired the assets of BurnsCascade Co., Inc., for an undisclosed amount. For more than sixty years, BurnsCascade has been an industrial supplier of valves, controls and flow-control instrumentation. With the acquisition, Collins will expand their product brand offering in upstate New York, primarily from Tyco Flow Control Group, with the addition of Raychem (heat tracing systems), Anderson Greenwood Instrumentation (hand valves and manifolds), and Kunkle Valve (safety relief valves).

One of the largest industrial distributors of pipe, manual and automated valves, fittings, and other engineered specialties in the Northeast, Collins Pipe & Supply also supplies power plant and large construction projects across the globe. Five years ago, Collins expanded their valve automation and process control operations in upstate New York by partnering with Joseph A. Clemente, a resident of Orchard Park, NY, and opening Niagara Controls LLC in Buffalo to service the western region of the state.

While Collins will consolidate the operations of BurnsCascade, they are purchasing existing distribution space in the Syracuse area — more than 16,000 square feet in size — to house their new Syracuse headquarters.  Seven specific positions will also be created to more efficiently cover the technical and management aspects of the new acquirement.

“Takin’ care of business”

Valve installed and operating in line.

In September of 2011 Mike O’Neill, our  manager of power / energy,  expedited a specialized valve being produced in Italy for a project in Wisconsin that we were supplying. After numerous phone calls and emails to the factory to get a current shipment date it became apparent that something was wrong.  On a Friday afternoon in mid- September, 19 weeks into a 22 week schedule, Mike learned that the manufacturer’s credit line had been pulled as a result of the generally  poor Italian economy and tightening of credit; the valves we were waiting for were nothing more than a drawing.

The following Monday afternoon Mike flew to Italy to investigate the situation first hand and learned that the valve bodies had not even been cast.  It was then decided that Collins would take over the project and build the valves from scratch.  Design rights were secured and Collins bought into the foundry schedule, trimming the usual lead time of 16 weeks down to 5 calendar days using weekends, 3 shifts, and a dedicated heat treat.  Mike directed the entire manufacturing process travelling 5800 kilometers by car during his 5 ½ week stay and returned home only after  the completed valves were shipped to the project site,.

Collins Pipe took immediate actions to remedy a problem for which they took responsibility. We believe that the true measure of any company’s value isn’t in how well they apologize, but in how well they respond to a problem.
